Many towns in England have their popular events which take place throughout the year and Chippenham is no exception. The town holds such events as pancake races, a folk festival and the bi-annual North Wiltshire Festival which brings thousands of visitors to the town and a Classic Car Rally. Being situated on the River Avon, as one would expect, there is a fishing event and this takes place in September which is an Open Challenge Match. For obvious reasons the Beer Festival is popular with both locals and visitors alike. For the rock and roll fans a festival is held in October to celebrate the 1950’s rock star, Eddie Cochran, who was tragically killed at a very young age in a road accident in Chippenham whilst travelling back to London from Bristol.
The nightlife scene centres around the New Inn, The Rose and Crown and Buds 2000 late-night venues, but the town also has the usual selection of take aways and eateries for every taste and budget. MacDonalds, Pizza Hut and Burger King are located on the edge of the town.
The town also boasts a large number of recreational facilities, namely, all weather tennis courts, sports halls, a snooker club not to mention the Olympiad Leisure Centre, bowling green and Par 3 Golf Course. Something for everyone including parks, a library and cinema.
